7 dead as New Farakka express derails in UP

There was a major rail accident in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning. A total of 9 bogies of New Farakka Express derailed in Harchandpur near Rae Bareli. In this accident 7 people have died while many others are  injured. The Anti-Terrorism Squad is also going to investigate the incident. Ashwini Lohani, chairman of the Railway Board, has also reached the spot for investigation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Congress President Rahul Gandhi also expressed sorrow at the Rae Bareli train accident.

Rae Bareli is also UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s parliamentary constituency. It is being told that the train was going from Malda towards New Delhi. 9 bogies, including the engine, were derailed. This train was derailed at 50 meters from Harchandpur station.
On behalf of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the families of the dead have been announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh and assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured. Apart from the state government, the compensation has also been announced from the Central Government. The Ministry of Railways has announced a grant of Rs. 5 lakh to the relatives of the deceased, Rs. 1 lakh to the critically injured persons and Rs. 50 thousand for minor injuries.
