9 dead as avalanche hits Gurja peak in Nepal

9 people lost their lives due to an avalanche in Nepal’s Mount Gurja. These include five climbers of South Korea and four Nepali guides. The incident took place on Friday. The team started climbing on October 7. The tragedy occurred at an altitude of 3500 meters, the mountain which happened to be an accident is in the Himalayan area of ​​Annapurna region of Nepal.

Wangchu Sherpa, Managing Director of Trekking Camp Nepal told that due to the bad weather, the group of climbers stayed in the camp at an altitude of 3500 meters. This camp was devastated in the avalanche after the icy storm. They had to climb about 3,700 meters to reach the top of Mount Gurja. A rescue helicopter was rushed to the spot on Saturday morning to bring the bodies.

According to the information, team leader Kim Chang-Ho was the first climber of South Korea who had crossed 14 peaks over 8000 meters of no additional oxygen cylinder was the team leader of the expedition.
