Ganga activist Swami Sanand dies after 113 days of hunger strike

Professor Gurudas Agarwal, who was doing protest (fasting) for 113 days for making effective laws for protecting the Ganges breathed last on Thursday. He was undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh.

On Tuesday, he was admitted to AIIMS from Matrisadan in Haridwar. According to doctors, potassium and glucose came to lower levels in his body, due to which he got heart attack in the afternoon. 86 year old Sanand was unmarried. Swamy Sanand had donated his body to AIIMS Rishikesh, therefore the body of the body has been kept in AIIMS. Relatives came here in the evening to pay their tributes.
On the other hand, Swami Sivananda, the headmaster of Matrisadan, accused the district administration of killing Swami Sanand. It has been announced that after Navaratri, he himself will advance this movement. He further added that he will stage a protest demanding punishment for the officers and ministers involved in the killing of Swamant Sanand. It is notable that forty-seven years ago, Nigamanand, another saint of Matrisadan, had died after 114 days of protest on this issue.
Retired Prof. Gurudas Agarwal (Swami Gyanswaroop Sanand) from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur was originally from Kandla Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. On June 22, 2018, he started fasting in Matrishadan for various demands including making strict laws for protecting the Ganges and opposing hydroelectric projects, which he named as austerity. During this time they he was only taking lemon, honey, salt and water. Union Minister Uma Bharati herself came to Matrisadhan twice to convince him, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari sent a messenger with letter and requested him to abolish the movement but he refused it.

Body donated to AIIMS

Swami Sanand has donated his body to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh. To respect his desire, the AIIMS administration has got together. In the AIIMS, Dean Dr Vijendra Singh told that when Swami was healthy, he sent a resolution letter to donate his body to AIIMS. The content of this resolution will be followed by the AIIMS administration and Swami Sanand’s honor will be fully respected. On Wednesday evening, the district administration had admitted him to AIIMS in Rishikesh. Where, on Thursday afternoon doctors announced his demise.
