NIT Srinagar students stage protests; boycott exams demanding justice for fellow student

Students of BTech, MTech and PhD of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Uttarakhand, Srinagar boycotted the examinations on Wednesday. Teachers, papers and answer books came in the examination chambers in the morning, but the students who were to take the exams did not arrive. The students kept on holding protest in the campus with their demands. NIT students are boycotting  classes protesting shifting of to NIT campus, demanding justice for injured student by collision with a car and the cost of treatment to be borne by MHRD, as well as demand of security. The agitating students say that they will end the agitation only after the demands are met. Whatever the price they have to pay, they are ready for it. More than 1100 students of NIT boycotted their exams on Wednesday. Students say that they are unable to find labs, medical etc. in the temporary campus of NIT. At the same time, there is danger of accidents while passing through the highway. In reference to these demands, the MHRD, along with the NIT administration, the Uttarakhand government has been apprised of the issue.
NIT teachers and employees have given one day’s salary for the treatment of Neelam, a student of seriously injured NIT, from a car collision in front of NIT. A total of 2.71 lakhs have been sent to help in the treatment of Neelam.

Examinations from Wednesday have been completely boycotted by the students. All preparations were completed by the NIT Administration for the examination. Even teachers in the class reached the examination hall. But the students did not come to the examination. The students are being counseled for two to three hours daily. But the students are not ready to relent. In this context, the ministry has also been told.
