B.Ed, D.EL.Ed courses to be replaced by two new courses soon

Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EL.Ed) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses for education are going to end soon. National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has launched two new courses. Students for these courses will be admitted directly after 12th standard. Notification of these courses has been issued.
So far D.EL.Ed was essential for teaching from pre-primary to primary level. While ITP course was compulsory for the teaching of upper primary to secondary level. Meanwhile, the NCTE has started four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP).

Any college, in which courses like M.ED. or BA, BSc, BCom, with BEd are taught (composite college), can get the recognition of ITEP. So far, the affiliation of D.EL.ED was affiliated with State Government Education Department and affiliation of BEd was from concerned University, but affiliation of these two courses will be directly received from the University and the recognition will be of NCTE.

50 seats in each college

An ITEP would be to teach from primary to primary level while the second ITEP course would be to teach from upper primary to secondary level. The duration of both courses will be of four years and they will get admission after 12th standard. Graduation will not be needed for these courses.

According to the notification issued by the NCTE, one batch for ITEP will be of 50 seats. Institute with BEd-MED will have to prepare 500 square meters of land and 400 square meter building for this course. For any new institute to run this course, this course will be available with courses like BA, BSc, BCom.

For that, they have to purchase at least 3000 square meters of land. This standard is only for 50 seats. A college can take more seats than this, according to which the land and building limits will increase.

At present the BEd-D.EL.Ed will continue

NCTE has launched two new courses, whose affiliation will be available from the session 2019-20. Hence, two-year-old BEd and one-year D.EL.Ed course will continue. NCTE has not yet made any announcement to close it.
