Locals outraged after water supply reduced in Nainital

The district administration has decided to cut the supply of drinking water considering the decrease in water level by one inch per day from Naini Lake. So far 16 lakh liters of water was being supplied, which has been reduced to 8 MLD. A press release was issued on Monday night by the District Magistrate Vinod Kumar Suman.

DM said that for the water level of the lake remain normal, suggestions from experts were taken. He cited the example of Shimla and said that due to lack of water there in the past year, hotel operators had to appeal to tourists to not visit the hill town. This situation should not be repeated in Nainital, so preventive steps are being taken. As a matter of fact, the control room has been set up by the Water Institute for resolving the problem related to Drinking Water. Consumer complaints can be lodged. The anger of people troubled by drinking water crisis was apparent against the municipality of the city. They protested with empty utensils on Haldwani Road. At the same time, there was a lot of sloganeering against water bodies and district administration. Consumers said that for the last several days, there was not a single drop of water in Harinagar, Kathband effecting hundreds of homes. Which has worsened their daily routine. District Administration is examining the people’s patience on the pretext of conservation of lake. The locals warned that if the water supply is not restored, the highway will be jammed.
