Next 36 hours critical as cyclone Gaja approaches Tamil Nadu

Heavy rains expected in most parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai

Cyclonic storm Gaja is fast approaching Chennai. On Monday morning, the situation in Gaja has been told 740 kilometers northeast of Chennai and 840 kilometers northeast from Nagapattinam.

There is a danger of further acceleration in the next 24 hours. At the moment, its speed is increasing towards south-west. Moving in south-westward direction till 15th November, it is possible for cyclone Gaja to cross Nagappattinam and Chennai. After this Gaza storm may decrease in intensity.

The Meteorological Department has shown the possibility of high rainfall in most places in Tamil Nadu due to the storm on November 14. Apart from this, heavy rainfall is expected in coastal areas adjacent to the North coastal area and Andhra Pradesh.

Giving information about the storm, Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority said, “In most places, there may be moderate rains and in some places it may be heavy rainfall. There is a possibility of heavy rain even in the sporadic spots of northern Tamil Nadu. On 15th November there may be heavy rains in south Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

According to information received from the weather department, after the morning of November 14, sea turbulence can be seen in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Therefore, the fishermen have been advised to not go to the Bay of Bengal, especially 12th and 13th November.

America’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has also informed Gaja about 270 kilometers south of Chennai. According to JTWC, storm can cross Nagapattinam at a speed of 110 km / hour.
