UPCL planning to hike electricity tariff by 6-12 %

Among the expensive LPG and petrochemicals, UPCL has also proposed to increase the cost of electricity. For household consumers, this increase can be six percent. At the same time, there is a proposal of 12 to 15 percent increase for business consumers. The proposal has been sent to the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission for approval.

UPCL’s board meeting discussed in detail about the increase in tariffs. Members emphasized on increasing the electricity rates due to mounting expenditure. Under this, a proposal was proposed to increase the rates of electricity in different classes by 15 to 17 percent, but after the intervention of Secretary Energy Radhika Jha, it was decided to relieve the BPL and normal families.

Later, keeping the domestic connection out of this limitation, there was a consensus on six percent increase for them. Whereas for business consumers, this increase has increased by 12 to 13 percent and industries have increased from 15 to 17 percent. UPCL spokesman AK Singh said that the proposal will be sent to UERC by November 30.
