Election Results 2018: Are we in the Endgame for Lok Sabha election 2019?

Congress wins in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, MP results hang in balance

If this week is anything to go by then 2019 is shaping up to be the mother of all climaxes. First in reel life the much awaited 4th installment of the Avengers franchise- ‘Endgame’ trailer is out. In April 2019 the fans will finally know how their superheros recover after the Thanos Snap. In real life, the common folks will decide whether Modi magic will remain or will Rahul rule come to power in the center. The election results of Rajasthan, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh indicate that the Congress may put up more than a fight against BJP in the general elections.

Congress topples BJP in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh

With 101 seats out of 199 in Rajasthan and 68 out of 90 in Chhattisgarh, Congress has toppled the BJP government in the state. After the defeat in Rajasthan assembly elections, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has submitted her resignation to Governor Kalyan Singh. On the other hand, with the victory in the elections, the claim for the Chief Minister’s post in the Congress has begun. The party has convened a meeting of legislators in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Wednesday to elect the leader of the legislature party. More likely, however, is that the legislature party will pass the resolution unanimously and hand over the decision to the party high command. Senior Rajasthan chief Ashok Gehlot and state Congress chief Sachin Pilot are the claimants for the Chief Minister’s post in Rajasthan. In the meeting of the legislative party to be held on Wednesday, the legislators will discuss on these two names.

MNF gets landslide win in Mizoram

This time in Mizoram, the Mizo National Front (MNF) has won with a huge margin. At the same time, the Congress suffered badly. CM Lal Thanhawla has lost both of his assembly seats- Serchhip and Champhai South. The results of all the 40 assembly seats in Mizoram have been announced, in which 26 candidates of MNF have won, while 5 seats have gone to Congress, one to BJP and 8 seats to independent candidates.

KCR to get begin second stint as Telangana CM

From beginning of a political journey as a simple worker of the Congress to becoming the face of Telangana. Chandrasekhar Rao has crossed the electoral fray on the bright waves of politics in a big way. He also achieved success by forcing the Congress to accede the formation of separate Telangana state.

The popularity of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), popular for the decades-old dream of different Telangana state, was declared after the final trends. Chandrasekhar Rao (64) has retained his claim of being the tallest leader in the country’s newest state. This success, found in the first assembly elections since the formation of Telangana in June 2014, can prove to be very important for them to give a concrete shape to their ambition to play a bigger role in national politics. They have often been accused of running the family and promoting nepotism. Caretaker Chief Minister Rao’s son K T Rama Rao was a minister in his government. His daughterK. Kavitha is a Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad. Rao’s nephew Harish Rao is also a minister in the caretaker government of the state.

Madhya Pradesh hangs in the balance

Perhaps the biggest setback of these election results for the BJP is that of Madhya Pradesh. Considered the stronghold of CM Shivraj Chouhan the situation in MP was neck in neck till midnight with neither party getting a majority in the 230 seat assembly. BJP had won and was ahead in 108 seats while Congress had won or was ahead in 114, 2 short of the majority. This slight advantage was enough for the Congress to seek an appointment with the Governor to stake claim to form the government in MP. However, the Governor has decided to take a decision in this regards only when the Election Commission has declared the final result.
