Fine to be imposed for polluting Ganga

In Uttarakhand, the state government has taken a big step towards reducing pollution in the Ganga. In this sequence, the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) have been imposed on the hotels, ashram and Dharmashalas. On the excavation of the sewerage or dirty water coming out of them in the Ganges and its tributaries, the penalty will be imposed on the respective hotels, ashram and Dharamhalas for a sum of five thousand rupees per day. In this regard, the government has issued the order. At the same time, the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (PCB) has prepared a strategy to monitor it.

The NGT also has a special focus on the cleanliness of the Ganga, along with the central government. The state government is also engaged in it. If one sees the recent data then, the water from Gomukh to Rishikesh is drinkable. The situation in Haridwar is somewhat bad. In the Ganges and its tributaries, sewage treatment plant (STP) is also being created in order to prevent pollution flowing in the river from any of the states. For this, taping the drains from Uttarkashi to Haridwar under Namami Ganga Project is being done.

Rs 5000 fine per day to be imposed

Meanwhile, the NGT had recently sought information about the remediation measures for sewerage and dirty water coming out of the hotels, ashrams and Dharmashalas in the state. This report has been sent to the NGT. In this, the number of hotels, ashrams and dharamshalas of 20 or more rooms in the state is 1573.

Now in the order of NGT’s directions, the government has to take strict action on the hotels, ashrams and dharamshalas. According to the order issued by Additional Chief Secretary Ranvir Singh, the environmental compensation will be implanted according to the amount of Rs. 5000 per day on every hotel, ashram and Dharmashalas, contributing the sewerage and dirty water in the Ganges and its tributaries. In this regard, the PCB has been directed to take necessary steps.
