Uttarakhand Government implements NSA after Lakhimpur Kheri incident

The state government has taken drastic steps to prevent violent incidents in Uttarakhand. The National Security Act has been implemented in the entire state till December. Under this, the powers of all the district magistrates have also been increased. After the approval of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Additional Secretary (Home) Ridhim Agarwal has made these orders on Monday. Police Headquarters has also alerted all the districts after the incident of trampling the protesting farmers a day ago in Lakhimpuri Kheri, UP.

The government believes that there have been violent incidents in some districts of the state in the past. In response to these incidents, similar incidents are expected in other areas of the state as well. Some anti-social elements are trying to play with the security of the state. Along with this, some elements are also trying to obstruct the maintenance of the services of the state, sources said.

In such a situation, NSA is imposed in the entire state with immediate effect to maintain public order and in the interest of the people. The government has given freedom to the district magistrates to exercise the powers obtained in sub-section two of section three of the National Security Act. This order will be effective from October 1 to December 31 for the time being.

Alert after Lakhimpur Kheri incident

Police Headquarters has also alerted all the districts after  it was reported that a vehicle ran over protesting farmers a day ago in Lakhimpuri Kheri, UP. After this incident, farmers in some districts of the state may adopt an aggressive stand. The intelligence agency has also given such inputs to the government. Especially in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, there is a possibility of anti social elements creating nuisance. The PHQ has directed all the police captains to identify those involved in anti-social activities and take strict action against them.
