Uttarakhand CM seeks 5000 crore grant from center for Mahakumbh

Uttarakhand government has requested the central government to give a lump sum amount of Rs 5,000 crore to the proposed Mahakumbh in Haridwar in 2021. During the meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, CM Trivendra Singh Rawat explained the justification of lump sum amount. He also met Union Water Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for approval of proposals of Namami Ganga project of 802 crore 95 lakh.

During the meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, CM informed about organizing Mahakumbh. He said that in the year 2021, there is a possibility of more than 150 lakh pilgrims coming to the Mahakumbh from India and abroad. It is necessary to expand the installation services and facilities, especially in housing, transport, health, sanitation and security etc. at the fair. To ensure successful organizing of the fair. About 5000 crores of proposals have been made available for the development of infrastructure services and facilities at the level of respective departments. All permanent and temporary work must be completed by October 2020. Given the limited economic resources of the Uttarakhand state, a one-time grant for the Mahakumbh should be given as early as possible. Union Minister assured all possible assistance for the successful organizing of the fair.

On the other hand, during the meeting with Union Water Commission Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Chief Minister requested that proposals of 802 crore 95 lakhs of Namami Ganga project should be approved as soon as possible. He urged the expenditure of Rs. 142 crores 52 lacs in the irrigation department and the remaining Rs. 63 crores of rupees to be released as soon as possible to complete the centrally sponsored schemes in the small irrigation department. Under the Namami Gange project, Rs.57 crores for the sewage treatment of polluted water of in Kedarpuri area, cleaning of waste water entering Ganga’s tributaries, Kosi, Kalyani, Bhela, Pillakhar, Nandore. Eight projects costing include Rs 14 lakh, Kashipur I & D, STP’s project costing Rs 97.77 lakhs,STP project and Sharda river, costing Rs 27.17 crores for the cost of Gaurikund sewage project, Agasthyamuni.

Before Haridwar Maha Kumbh, on the Ring Road and Ganga river, 2.5 km near Jagjitpur (Kankhal) The construction of four lane bridges is essential. So there is no problem in organizing Mahakumbh. This demand was put forward by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat by meeting Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday. He said that 17 highways of the state also be declared as National Highways. Calling on the Union Minister in Delhi on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that under the Central Road Fund, 19 schemes costing about 454 crore were approved in the state. Mahakumbh is to be organized in Haridwar in year 2021. It is very important to construct a ring road in Haridwar city to deal with possible traffic pressure. An estimated cost of construction of 47 km long ring road is estimated to be Rs. 1566 crore. The survey was conducted by the National Highways Authority of India on its DPR before the Chief Secretary of the state. Now the construction of this project is to be approved by the Central Government. To reduce the pressure of traffic in Haridwar, Construction of four lane bridges on the river Ganges of Span 2.5 km near Jagjitpur (Kankhal) is also necessary. The Chief Minister said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has about 17 km in Rishikesh under the Char Dham project. Bypass is theoretically accepted. The cost of land acquisition for this bypass is approximately 250 crores. The way cost of land acquisition is being borne by the Center in Chardham Marg project similarly this 17 km stretch should also be paid up by the central government.  The Union Minister assured that the Ministry is ready to give all help to Uttarakhand.
