WTC 2023: Australia qualifies for finals after defeating India in Indore test

Australia defeated India by 9 wickets in the Indore Test on Thursday. India had given a target of 76 runs, which Australia achieved within 76 minutes of the start of the game on Day 3. Travis Head played an unbeaten innings of 49 runs.

With this victory, the visitors made a 2-1 comeback in the four-match series. The last match of the series will be played from March 9 to 13 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

On the third day of the match on Friday, the visiting team had a small target of 76 runs to win, although Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Usman Khawaja for zero on the second ball of the day, once again raised the hopes of the Indian fans. Indian spinners were also effective in the first 11 overs, but the conditions changed in the 12th over as soon as the ball was changed. Australia had scored only 13 runs before changing of the ball. In the 7 overs since changing the ball, the Australian batsmen scored the remaining 63 runs. Marnus Labuschagne scored the winning runs for the Aussies. Travis Head 49 and Marnus Labushen 28 remained unbeaten.

Earlier, India had taken a lead of 75 runs in the second innings after scoring 163 runs. In reply, the Australian team scored 197 runs in their first innings and took a lead of 88 runs in the first innings. India was reduced to 109 runs in the first innings.

Australia qualifies for World Test Championship 2023

After the victory in the Indore Test, the Australian team has now reached the final of the World Test Championship for the first time. It has become the first team to reach the title match. If the Indian team had won this match, it would have reached the final, but now it will have to wait. The final of the World Test Championship will be played at The Oval in England from June 7 to 11.

Australia have been a formidable team during this World Test Championship period (2021-23). Pat Cummins’s team has won 11 out of 18 Tests. On the other hand, the Indian team has played 18 Test matches. They have won 10. There were defeats in five matches and two matches were drawn.

How can India qualify for WTC Finals?

  • A win in the fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad would ensure India’s place in the final.
  • If Team India loses in Ahmedabad Test or that match remains a draw, then their path to the finals could be changed by Sri Lanka.
  • In the event of a loss, India will have to depend on the results of the Test matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
  • In such a situation, India would like New Zealand to beat Sri Lanka in at least one match in the two-Test series.
