Scores injured in serial blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday

6 bomb blasts occurred in many areas of Colombo and Sri Lanka during Easter. The explosion took place in three churches and three five star hotels. 49 people were killed in the incident, while 300 were injured.

The number of dead in the blast is continuously rising. Meanwhile an emergency meeting was convened, in which Prime Minister Ranil Vikramsinghe will also participate.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said that the blast took place on Sunday morning (local time) at 8.45. Colombo National Hospital said that at least 80 people have been admitted to the hospital.

Sri Lanka’s Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Minister Harsha D’Silva tweeted that the Prime Minister is returning from Bentota. Emergency meeting has been convened. The rescue work is going on fast. They have appealed to keep peace from people and not to leave the houses. They have expressed the possibility of having many casualties, including some foreign nationals.

Explosion took place in hotels and churches in Batticaloa, Nagombo and Colombo. Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she was in touch with the Indian Embassy present in Sri Lanka.
