Harela 2021: District administration targets to plant more than 4 lakh saplings

Like last year, preparations are being made to make Harela festival memorable this time too. This time there is a target to plant more than four lakh saplings by the district administration on Harela festival, out of which two lakh 15 thousand saplings will be planted by the forest department only. Whereas, a target of planting ten thousand saplings has been set by the municipal administration and 15,000 by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority.

Among the plants to be planted on the Harela festival on behalf of the Forest Department, 70 thousand from Dehradun Forest Division, 35 thousand from Kalsi Forest Division, 55 each thousand from Mussoorie and Chakrata Forest Division has been set.

Whereas, the remaining saplings have to be planted through Nagar Panchayats, District Panchayats, Gram Panchayats. Along with the district administration, preparations are being finalized by all the departments regarding plantation. Along with digging pits for plantation, arrangements are also being made for the plants.

Let us inform that last year a record was set by planting three lakh seventy one thousand saplings in one hour on the day of Harela festival. This time there is a preparation to break this record.

These plants will be planted during the campaign

Along with fragrant flowers like Night-blooming jasmine (Ratrani), Champa, Jasmine, fruit plants like Mango, Guava, Jamun, Jackfruit, Amla, Lime, Litchi will also be planted during the Harela campaign.

Apart from these, saplings of species like Sheesham, Harad, Bahera, Belpatra, Sandan, Mahal, Tejpat, Amaltas, Kanji, Bamboo, Tikoma, Pilan, Arjun, Maureng,etc. will also be planted.

A record 3.71 lakh saplings were planted on the Harela festival last year. This time a target has been set to plant four lakh saplings. In order to make the Harela campaign a success, the help of all the departments including education, horticulture, irrigation, cooperatives will also be taken apart from the forest department. There is also an appeal to the people to plant saplings on the anniversary, birthday or any special occasion. So that, along with preserving the environment for the future generations, they can get pure air, water.
