Constitution Amendment bill for reservation passed by Lok Sabha

The winter session of the Lok Sabha was adjourned indefinitely on Tuesday. In addition to the amendment to the Constitution regarding the reservation of economically weaker sections of the general category, on the last day of the winter session beginning December 11, several important bills were passed in the entire session. Although the Rajya Sabha meeting has been extended till Wednesday and there is a possibility of a discussion on the Constitution and the passing of the Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill in the Upper House on the last day.

The meeting of the Lok Sabha lasted till late night on Tuesday as the Constitution Amendment Bill was passed to give reservation to economically weaker sections of the general category. After the tune of the national anthem, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced the postponement of the House meeting indefinitely. Earlier in her traditional address, Mahajan said that during the session 17 meetings of the Lok Sabha were held. During this, the House approved the second batch of supplementary demands of the grant of 2018-19.


82 percent bills passed


The Speaker concluded the session and said that during the session 12 government bills were restored and many important legislation passed. Important bill introduced in the House includes the Bill of Transgender Rights, Bill of Surrogacy, Bill related to Autism-linked people, Muslim Women’s Marriage Rights Protection Bill, IMC Amendment Bill, Citizenship Amendment Bill and Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill.

She said that 82.35 percent of the bill were passed was passed in the bill. 42 reports of permanent committees were also presented in the House. During the session, the issue of Rafale Deal was discussed in the eight-hour 21 minutes under Rule 193 and Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded on this.

49 Members suspended


Taking strong action to obstruct the proceedings of the House during the session, the Speaker suspended 49 members, including members of AIADMK and Telugu Desam Party (TDP), for the remainder of the working hours of the House. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, almost all ministers of his Cabinet, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, senior BJP leader LK Advani, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, AIADMK M. Thambidurai and prominent leaders of various parties were present.
