Death toll reaches 50 in dam collapse in Brazil

In the southeastern Brazilian Friday, the number of people who died due to dam collapse near a mine has reached fifty, and 345 are missing. Meanwhile, administrative officials that the rescue operation is in progress, but people are less likely to get back alive.

The local fire officer said that seven bodies were recovered after several hours of disaster on Friday, but the number of dead rose to ten on Saturday. German company gave clean chit

A German company had inspected the dam a few months ago, but it did not find any flaw in it. The Munich-based company, TÜV SÜD, which specializes in this regard in the world, inspected the company’s ownership of the mine, in September 2018. Built in 1976, the dam was one of several in the area and it was used to hold residue from the mine. It had a capacity of 12m cubic metres and had been an inactive site for three years, Vale said.

Fines imposed on mining company Vale

After the collapse of the dam, a fine of five billion rupees has been imposed on Brazilian mining company Vale. This penalty has been imposed by the government’s environmental protection agency, IBAA.
