Army rescues over 380 trapped due to Glacier burst near Joshimath

The army’s rescue operation continues after the glacier broke near Joshimath in Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. The glacier was broken and fell on the Malari-Sumna road. Construction work was going on this road. According to the army, 8 bodies have been recovered so far and 384 people have been safely rescued. The condition of 6 is said to be critical. According to the Army’s Central Command, these people were in the Border Road Organization (BRO) camp in the Sumna area of ​​Joshimath. Rescue operation was stopped at night due to bad weather. Now it has started again at dawn.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that thunderstorms could occur in Chamoli with strong rains in the next 28 hours. During this time, the minimum temperature here is expected to be 6 degrees and maximum 14 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has forecast a clear sky from April 26.

The BRO commander Colonel Manish Kapil said that road construction work was going on here. Heavy snowfall is believed to be the cause of glacier burst. The Joshimath-Malari highway has also been covered with snow due to the accident.
