Bangladesh Humble India in first ODI at Mirpur

Bangla Tigers avenge their loss against the men in blue in World Cup quaters

Bangladesh proved once again that their run up to the quater finals of the cricket world cup this year was’nt merely a fluke as they defeated India by 79 runs in the first ODI in Mirpur.

Openers lay a solid platform

Batting first the Bangladeshi openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar involved in a century stand which laid the launching platform for the hosts. Rain did intervene for a while resulting in Bangladesh losing its openers. India’s R Ashwin did manage to turn the tide with 3 wickets but Sakib Al Hasan’s half century and cameos form Sabbir Rahman and Nasir Hussain ensured that Bangladesh posted thier highest total against India 307.

Indian Reply

The Indian innings got off to a good start with Rohit Sharma doing bulk of the scoring, however pacer Taskin Ahmed removed Shikhar Dhawan when the team’s score was on 95. India received a big blow in the run chase when India’s test captain Virat Kohli too followed Dhawan after just scoring a solitary run.

Middle order slump

India’s middle order could’nt cope up with the score board pressure as the men in blue slumped from 95 without loss to 128 for 5. Although Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja did try to resurrect the innings it was always going to be a tough ask as the required run rate hovered around 9 runs per over mark.

Debutant Mustafizur, took a five for with his left arm medium pace bowling as the hosts registered a 97 run victory to lead the 3 match series 1-0.
