India defeat England in last over thriller to win ODI series 2-1
Team India has also won the ODI series after Tests and T20s. Team India defeated England by 7 runs in a thrilling match in the third ODI. With this, the team captured the series 2–1. Team India has beaten England in the sixth consecutive ODI series at home. Prior to this, Team India won the Test series 3–1 and the T20 series 3–2.
The English team started off chasing the target of 330 runs. Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar dismissed Jason Roy (14) on the last ball of the first over of the English innings. After this, Bhuvneshwar made got further success by dismissing Johnny Bairstow (1). Bairstow scored a stunning 124 in the second ODI. Apart from this, he also played a big innings of 94 runs in ODIs.
After two wickets for 28 runs, Ben Stokes (35) played some good shots. He also got a reprieve when Hardik Pandaya dropped a catch on the bowling of Bhuvi. But he could not take advantage of it. Stokes was dismissed by left-arm fast bowler T Natarajan. David Malan (50) and Liam Livingstone (36) added 60 runs for the fifth wicket. In the middle over, Shardul Thakur pushed the English team back with three wickets. Moin Ali also scored 29 runs. Sam Curran (95) and Adil Rashid (19) tried to stage a comeback for the ages scoring 57 runs after fall of 7 wickets for 200 runs. Sam Curran had brought the team to the threshold of victory. But the team lost in a close match. The players of Team India did poor fielding as compared to the high standards set by them and missed 4 catches. In the 49th over, Shardul and Natarajan dropped a catch each. England were to score 14 runs in the final over to win, but the English team could manage only 6 runs. The team scored 322 runs for 9 wickets after 50 overs. Fast bowler Shardul Thakur took the maximum 4 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also got 3 wickets. Earlier Pant had scored his highest ODI score of 78 runs. This was the left handers second consecutive half century of the series.
