10% reservation in education and employment approved in Uttarakhand

The Trivendra Singh Rawat led Government of Uttarakhand has implemented the 10% reservation for the economically weaker section of the society. The reservation will be applicable in government educational institutions as well as government jobs.

Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat shared the information on his Twitter account. The state government has issued a gazette notification in this regards.

Earlier the Central Government in a landmark decision had passed a law allowing 10 percent reservation to the economically weaker general category. Uttarakhand has followed in the footsteps of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh in implementation of the bill.

Additional Chief Secretary, Personnel and Vigilance, Mrs. Radha Rathuri said that after the amendment of constitution by the Government of India, 10 percent reservation has been given to economically weaker sections. In the same sequence, the Uttarakhand government has also been enacted as ‘Uttarakhand Public Service Ordinance 2019’ on 5th February, 2019. “Uttarakhand Public Service (Reservations for Economically Weaker Sections) Ordinance 2019” has been implemented.This is good news for the unemployed educated youth of the state, under which economically weaker sections will also get the benefit of reservation.
She said that this ordinance has been forwarded to all the departments, Uttarkhand Public Service Commission and Subordinate Services Selection Commission. Under this, reservations for economically weaker sections in the public services and posts will be reserved for those permanent residents of the state of Uttarakhand who are not included under the current scheme of reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes.

Who all are eligible in the economically weak reservation

In the Union Cabinet meeting on Monday, it has been decided that 10 percent reservation will now be given to the upper castes. These reservations will be given to economically weaker sections. As per the sources, the reservation can be provided to people having annual income less than 8 lakh and less than 5 acres of land.
