Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe steps down citing health issues

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has resigned from his post due to ill health and illnesses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted after information about the health of Shinzo Abe. PM Modi said that he was sorry to hear about the health of dear friend Shinzo Abe.

PM Modi said that ‘it was sad to hear about the health of Shinzo Abe. With your leadership and personal commitment in recent years, the India-Japan partnership has become deeper and stronger than ever’.

Shinzo Abe wanted to save the government from administrative hurdles due to his deteriorating health condition. Recently, after making two visits to a hospital, speculation about Shinzo Abe’s health and tenure intensified. He is struggling with his chronic disease ulcerative colitis. The friendship between PM Modi and Shinzo Abe is well known. Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most trusted friends.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is among those leaders of the world who see India as a global power in the direction of global prosperity. In 2019, when the BJP led by PM Modi returned to power with a repeat victory, Shinzo Abe sent a congratulatory message to PM Modi. He had said that ‘Japan’s desire is to become India’s most reliable partner in our common quest for a better future’.

Abe said that ‘I am getting a new treatment for this disease, which needs regular examination and care. I will not be able to devote enough time to discharge my duties during my treatment.’

Abe said, ‘Now that I am not able to fulfill the mandate from people with confidence, I have decided that I should no longer continue as the Prime Minister.’ It is being told that Abe will continue in office until his ruling Liberal Democratic Party chooses a successor. The election for the post of PM is likely to be only between MPs and members of the party.
