National Food Security Scheme to be launched in Uttarakhand on 2nd October

Dehradun: Chief Minister Harish Rawat held a meeting concerning implementation of National Food Security Scheme in Uttarakhand at Bijapur Guest House. During the meeting, the CM announced that the National Food Security Scheme would be launched on 2nd October, 2015. Approximately 62 lakhs people will be benefited through this scheme. The rest 67 lakhs people will be placed under the state food security scheme. The CM directed to digitize those ration card holders who are outside the scope of national food security scheme.
CM Rawat cleared that it was the responsibility of the government to provide food security to every needy person. He said that if the amount of food provided to any family would be reduced after the implementation of national food security scheme, the solution should also be considered. During the meeting it was informed that 62 lakhs people were under this scheme. Per head 5 Kg food will be provided under the norms of Central Government, whereas the state government is providing 15 kg food to each family.
The Chief Minister directed that digitization must be completed soon to those APL families which were outside the scope of national food security scheme.He stated that rice was more prevalent in our state and the state government had to buy wheat at market price from the central government, so the state government has taken decision to interchange the quantity of rice and wheat. Now the state government will provide 5 kg wheat and 10 kg rice under state food security scheme.
