Fresh snowfall in Mussoorie, Chakrata; schools closed in many districts

The weather has once again changed in Uttarakhand and there is snowfall in the Himalayas, including the Char Dhams, as well as the rains at the lower altitude. After the hailstorm in the city of Mussoorie in the morning, it received heavy snowfall from around eleven o’clock in the night, while the adjoining Dhanaulti, Surkanda, Nagtibba and Chakrata have become white with snow. Given the weather alert of the Meteorological Department, Dehradun, Tehri administration has been declared a holiday in schools from class one to twelve. On the other hand, administration of Bageshwar and Pithoragarh in Kumaon on Friday also declared holiday in all classes from class 1 to 12. According to the Meteorological Department, there is possibility of rain and snowfall on Friday as well. Although the weather may be clear by the evening.
There was light sunshine on Thursday morning, but in the afternoon there was a thick cloud in the sky. In the afternoon there is news of snow in Badrinath, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri along with Auli, Hemkund and Gorso Bugyal and Harshil. Even after 16 days power supply has not been restored in Kedarnath. About three dozen villages in the Uttarkashi district are still cut off from the district headquarters, while traffic on chardham roads including Gangotri and Yamunotri Highway has not been restored. There were rains in Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee and Udham Singh Nagar.

Boon for farming

Although rain and snowfall have increased in the cold, but for cultivation and horticulture, this is a welcome news. Dr SS Singh, a scientist of the Agricultural Science Center located at Dhakrani near Dehradun, said that the cultivation in the mountains is mostly dependent on rain. These days is the sowing period of wheat, in whichthe rains are a boon for farming. He said that the snowfall has made the atmosphere suitable for apple, while it will also benefit from fruits like Apricot, Plum, as well as vegetable yields.
