IOC suspends India’s application from hosting events in the future
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended all the Indian applications to host any tournament related to the Olympics in the future. India will now only be allowed to host a tournament unless it gives written assurances to all participants participating in these tournaments.
This strong decision against India by IOC has come after the incident in which India had refused to grant Visa to two Pakistani shooters to participate in the International Shooting Federation (ISSF) World Cup starting in New Delhi on Saturday. In this World Cup,16 places are up for grabs for the 202 Olympics in Tokyo.
After the terrorist attack on February 14 in Pulwama, India refused to grant visas to Pakistani shooters. 40 soldiers were killed in the Pulwama attack.
The IOC said in the statement that despite having received the information on the matter and despite deep efforts and discussions made by the Government of India till the last minute, there was no solution to allow the Pakistani delegation to enter India.
IOC said, “After this, the executive board of the IOC decided to postpone all matters with India so that in the future the Games and the Olympics related events in India could not be hosted.”
Not only this, the IOC has also urged the international sports federations not to organize programs in India and to not host it for any tournament in the future, unless India does not give written assurance for safety of all athletes participating in events hosted in India.
The IOC said, “It has removed the Olympic qualification status from the 25 meter rapid fire pistol event in which two Pakistani shooters had to take part.”
“It has been taken in the interest of the 500 shooters of 61 countries participating in other competitions and they are already in India to participate in the tournament,” said Bishan.
