Government plans to make Tehri lake plastic free zone

Tourists and local people who visit the Tehri lake will not be able to throw plastic garbage along the lake. The administration has made a new arrangement to make the area around  Tehri lake free of polythene. Under this, tourists coming towards the lake, along with food and drink items, will also have to bring their empty bags to collect the waste. They will be handed over to the employees of the lake development authority.

Due to the increase in tourism activities in Tehri Lake, dirt and pollution is also increasing. After meeting with Tehri Lake Special Conservation Authority on December 20, DM Sonika instructed authorities to free the lake of plastic items. Presently the tourists coming to the yachting and roaming go to the lake with food items and throw their waste without caring much for the environment.

Dirt is increasing in the lake continuously. But, according to the new system, any tourist carring food and drink in the lake, will have to give information on the ticket counter. In lieu of this, some securities will also be taken. In return, the empty bag of food items will be deposited on the counter. After this security amount will be returned to the tourist.

The administration believes that due to this the lake will remain clean and the environment will also be clean. DM has instructed the officials of the authority to make an action plan in this regard. Soon this system will be implemented. In this regard, the governor has negotiated boat operators and they are willing to adopt this system. Boat Operator Union’s president Kuldeep Panwar told that all local youths are also cooperating to keep the lake clean.
