Poisonous liquor death toll reaches 92 in UP-Uttarakhand

The number of people killed in poisonous liquor in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is increasing steadily. In Saharanpur, Roorkee and Kushinagar, the number of deaths due to drinking poisonous liquor has increased to 92. 64 of Saharanpur, 20 in Roorkee and 8 in Kushinagar have been killed. Out of these, 18 people of Saharanpur died in Meerut during treatment. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, most of those who died of poisonous liquor were people who had gone to Uttarakhand to participate in a last rires ceremony and they consumed alcohol there.

According to Saharanpur officials, people who attended the ceremony started dying. So far, 46 people have been postmortemed in this case, in which 36 people are reported due to alcoholism. On the other hand, 18 people who died in Meerut were brought from Saharanpur, who died during treatment. In many villages of Nagal, Gaagalhari and Deoband in Saharanpur district, 44 people have died due to drinking alcohol in late night, more than 30 people are admitted to the hospital. The condition of many people remains fragile in the medical hospital of Meerut.

For the negligence of the administration, the government has suspended three police inspectors and two constables of Nagal police station, including Nagal police station in charge.

On Friday evening and late night, the UP Chief Secretary and later the DGP instructed the district collectors and police captains of all the districts through video conferencing that in the case of toxic liquor, raiding and research would be done in the entire district. This campaign will run for the next fifteen days, along with arrests illegal liquor distilleries will be raided. Clearly, instructions have been given by the government that the district police officer and the district collector will have to bear the brunt due to the carelessness in the district.

Despite the deaths in Saharanpur and Kushinagar, the business of smuggling liquor has not been named. On the other hand, a joint team of police and excise raided Kushi Nagar and recovered 1600 boxes of liquor being brought in the straw in a stacked truck on NH 28 in Kaptanganj police station area. The value of illegal liquor recovered is more than Rs 80 lakhs. Kaptanganj Police has registered a case under Excise Act and the liquor smuggler is currently being declared absconding.

Obviously after the administrative order, the officials are also in action mode and the campaign is being run in the entire spectrum. Under this campaign, police raids are going on simultaneously in dozens of districts including Basti, Maharajganj, Deoband, Gorakhpur, Banda, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Ghaziabad, Saharanpur, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Mathura. Many seizures have been seized many illegal factories have been sealed.
