School holiday in 7 Uttarakhand districts after heavy rain forecast

Meteorological department has issued a red alert of heavy rains on Thursday in Uttarakhand. On the other hand, heavy snowfall warning has also been issued in mountainous areas. This has resulted in declaration of holiday in schools in seven districts of the state on Thursday.
The department believes that in the next 24 hours from night to night, hail may fall somewhere in the plains. Following the weather department’s alert, the government has issued advisory to all the District Magistrates. In order to stop the movement of tourists in high altitude areas and to open the closed roads, it has already been directed to make arrangements.

Schools will be closed in these districts of Uttarakhand on Feb 7

The district collectors in the new Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Champawat and Pithoragarh have declared holiday in schools from 1 to the 12th. In the Chamoli district on Wednesday, snowfall has started in Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Flowers Valley, Rudranath, Nanda Ghati Mandal and Mana Ghatis. Earlier the MeT department had forecasted heavy rain and snow in Uttarakhand on February 6 and 7. A red alert had also been issued. 2019 has seen plenty of snowfall in the upper regions of Uttarakhand.

Kedarnath received around 9 feet of snowfall due to which reconstruction and development works were stalled. In the hill town of Chakrata tourists were stranded for almost 9 days before being rescued. Access to many villages has been cut off due to the snow. The snowfall has also brought smiles on the faces of the apple farmers who expect a good yield this year.
