Corona curfew proving ineffective as cases rise in Dehradun

Corona curfew imposed by the district administration is proving to be worthless in state capital Dehradun. The situation has become such that yesterday Dehradun with a population of around 17 lakhs recorded more cases than Mumbai which has a population of well over 1 crore.

Here for the second consecutive day the infection rate has been above 30 percent. Not only this, it has risen from 31 to 34 percent. There have been 3979 cases of corona in the district. This is the highest number of cases reported so far. At the same time, 83 patients have also died.

In the last one week, 19534 people have been infected in the district, while 478 have lost their lives. This is the reason why the Union Health Ministry has also expressed its concern about Doon. It has been included in the fifteen districts of the country where cases are increasing rapidly.

Corona curfew ineffective

On April 26, 2021 corona curfew was imposed in seven major cities including Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haldwani, Ramnagar. After this, strictness was also increased in many more cities. On the first day, 5058 new infected cases were reported in the state. While 67 people lost their lives on this day. The sample positivity rate was 4.31 percent.

On the 12th day of curfew May 07, 2021: The number of positive cases in the state has increased to 9642. 137 people died. In Dehradun, the most stringent, 3979 positive cases were found on this day and 83 people died. The sample positivity rate in the state has increased to 5.76 percent.

The city as well as the state is grappling with the second corona wave and the government should take a firm stand on imposing a full lockdown as the corona curfew has proven to be ineffective in reducing the cases. The half hearted curfew is doing damage both socially as well economically.
