IPL 2020: Matches in Mumbai to be played without audience

The Maharashtra cabinet has approved the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) matches, but without an audience. To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the cabinet has decided that the IPL matches in Mumbai will be played without an audience. This proposal was discussed in the State Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. It is expected that the government will soon issue a statement in the Assembly regarding this. The 13th season of the IPL will begin from March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The opening match will be played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

No tickets to be sold for IPL 2020 matches in Mumbai

On Tuesday, 5 cases of Coronavirus Covid-19 were confirmed in Maharashtra, after which the government discussed the IPL. The senior Maharashtra minister said, “We want to take all kinds of precautions in view of the coronavirus. We have decided that a large number of people will not be allowed to congregate in the state from now on. Along with this, there is an appeal to our people to avoid gathering in any crowded place. The IPL was discussed in the cabinet meeting and it was decided that the IPL tournament will be allowed only when tickets are not sold to the spectators.”

Another minister said, “The state was told that the BCCI has no problem with if tickets are not sold for these matches.” The IPL mostly earns its income through live telecasts, websites and advertisements on other sources such as television, which will help this year. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar informed the state cabinet about this, after which the decision was taken.

Earlier Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said in a statement that the Indian Premier League (IPL) could be organized later in view of the increasing risk of Coronavirus across the country.

Tope had said, “When large numbers of people gather at one place, there is a possibility of infectious diseases spreading rapidly.” This is not the right time for such (IPL) events. It should be held later. “

 BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had said that the IPL will be held on the scheduled date and all possible steps will be taken to deal with the coronavirus. Ganguly made it clear on the question asked in this regard that the IPL is ‘on’ and the board is ready to take all necessary steps for the smooth conduct of the tournament.
