FPI Data: Foreign Investors make investments over Rs 7000 crore in March

Foreign investors have invested Rs 7,200 crore in Indian stock markets in the trading sessions so far in the month of March, 2023. This includes investments made by American firm GQG in Adani Group companies.

According to the data released by the depositories, an investment of Rs 7,233 crore has been made by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in the trading session of March 25. In the previous months, FPIs pulled out Rs 5,294 crore in February and Rs 28,852 crore in January. At the same time, Rs 11,119 crore was invested by FPI in December.

Fluctuations may continue in FPI

Speaking to news agency PTI, VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said that FPIs remain cautious due to the banking crisis in the US. Stock markets are under pressure due to the sinking of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank.

March’s FPI inflow data includes massive investment of Rs 15,446 crore by GQG in four Adani Group stocks. If this is removed, then FPI investment is negative in March.

FPIs are buying in these sectors

On the basis of sectors, FPIs are buying in auto, financial services, metal and power companies. However, there has been a massive selloff in IT stocks.

Selling in other markets too

Barring China, Indonesia and India, FPI investors are pulling out in other developing markets such as South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
