Justice P.C Ghose appointed first Lokpal of India

India has finally gotten its first Lokpal. Supreme Court’s retired judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose has been appointed as the first Lokpal of the country. President Ramnath Kovind has approved the appointment of Lokpal on Tuesday. Earlier, the selection committee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, eminent lawmaker Mukul Rohatgi decided his name on Friday and after this his file was sent to the President for approval.

PC Ghose, retired on May 2017, is a member of the National Human Rights Commission. PC Ghose was the judge who had convicted Tamil Nadu’s former CM Jayalalithaa, in the case of property more than income.

The names of the judicial members of the Lokpal Committee include 5 names. These include Justice Dilip Bhosale, Justice Pradeep Mohanty, Justice Abhilasha Kumari, Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi. Apart from this, non judicial members include Dinesh Kumar Jain, Archana Ramasundaram, Mahendra Singh, Inderjit Prasad Gautam. According to the notification, the appointment of these members will be considered effective as soon as they take charge.

Who is PC Ghose

Pinaki Chandra Ghose was born on May 28, 1952 and is the son of Justice Shambhu Chandra Ghose. He has been the judge of the Supreme Court and has been the chief justice of many states. Now PC Ghose is a member of the Human Rights Commission. He studied LLB from St. Xavier’s College, BCom and Calcutta University. Ghose became the judge of the Calcutta High Court in 1997, and in December 2012 he became the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. In May 2017 Ghose retired from the Supreme Court and he was the judge of the Supreme Court from 2013 to 2017.
