Lok Sabha 2019: BJP releases first list of candidates from Uttarakhand

BJP has declared candidates for the five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand. Former Chief Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Haridwar seat, Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah on Tehri seat on Ajay Tamta on Almora seat have been made candidates. All three are currently MPs from these seats. On the Pauri seat, National Secretary Teerath Singh Rawat and in Nainital State President Ajay Bhatt have been declared the candidate.

After three rounds of survey in the state on behalf of the BJP’s provincial leadership, the panel of nominees was handed over to the central leadership on March 15. There were 17 potential claimants in it. These were also discussed in the BJP’s central election committee meeting in Delhi on March 16. Then it was expected that the names would be announced.

The party finalized the names of the candidates after the meeting in the state. After the announcement of not contesting the elections by former Chief Minister and MP Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri and Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, the party has had to make a lot of efforts to contest the right candidates in these seats. On the Pauri seat, National Secretary Teerath Singh Rawat and the BJP State President Ajay Bhatt from Naintal have been named as the candidate.
