Rishikesh-Gangotri highway reopened after 18 hours

The construction of the All Weather project on the Rishikesh-Gangotri Highway has increased the problems of people of Tehri and Uttarkashi districts. Day-to-Day traffic between Narendranagar and Chamba is getting obstructed from landslides. After 18 hours the highway reopened on Wednesday.

About 150 people had to pass on the road in Tachala on their vehicles on Tuesday night. All night long, people craved water and food. People have expressed strong indignation on the poor functioning of governance.

Between Bhadrakali and Chamba on the Rishikesh-Gangotri for the last one year the work of widening the highway has been going on. Debris and stones began to fall from the top due to drilling by the workers. People say that soil removal should be started first from the mountainous part of landslide zone.
Clay mounds and stones can be completely removed by blocking the rock, but it is not being done, due to the frequent landslides from the rock, the highway is getting blocked.

On Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm, the highway was interrupted, leaving more than 100 vehicles on both sides of the road stranded. People who went to Rishikesh, Dehradun and Haridwar from Chamba had gone towards their destination in the night via Dhanaulti, but people from Rishikesh, who were going to Chamba had to spend the night in their vehicles on the highway.

On the morning of 8 o’clock on the morning, the road was reopened after much work, then the people trapped there breathed a sigh of relief. Narendranagar SDM Yukta Mishra said that water tanker was sent at night. People have had problems, but there was food arrangement in nearby hotels.
