More than 1 lakh 10 year old diesel cars de-registered in Delhi

Strict measures have been taken amid rising air pollution in Delhi and the Delhi government on Saturday ended the registration of over 1 lakh 10 year old diesel vehicles. Officials say that after this decision of the Arvind Kejriwal government, the owners of these vehicles are left with only two options, either they get retrofitting in these vehicles and get electric kits installed in them or sell them in another state by taking no objection certificate ie NOC. A senior official of the Delhi Transport Department said that the registration of petrol vehicles older than 15 years will also be abolished in the coming days.

The number of such petrol-powered vehicles in the capital is 43 lakh. Of these, 32 lakh two-wheelers and 11 lakh cars are included. The Transport Department has warned that if any diesel vehicle older than ten years or petrol-operated vehicle more than 15 years old is found plying on the roads of the capital, it will be immediately confiscated and sent for scrap.

The official said that in compliance with the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Delhi government has de-registered 101247 diesel-powered vehicles which have completed ten years on January 1, 2022. If these vehicles have to be registered in other states, then NOC will have to be obtained. These seized diesel vehicles include 87 thousand cars and other goods carrying vehicles, buses and tractors.

The Transport Department of Delhi has joined hands with eight electric kit manufacturers for retrofitting old petrol and diesel powered vehicles. In this, there will also be options for two-wheelers and three-wheelers, which can no longer be plying on the road as per the order of the NGT. Soon many other companies will be included in this panel.
