Stefanos Tsitsipas stands in way of Roger Federer and title number 100

Federer-Tsitsipas to contest Dubai Tennis Championships Final 2019

Roger Federer is one win away from winning 100 tour level title. The 37 year old will become just the second player after Jimmy Connors (109) to achieve the feat if he is able to defeat the Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 20 year old won the pairs only head to head on the professional circuit by defeating Federer in 4 sets at this years Australian Open.

Tsitsipas who is aware of the revenge element in the mind of Federer is coming into the match with a 8 match winning streak. He is set to break into the top 10 for the first time in his career when the rankings are updated next Monday. “Maybe [there is] a little bit [of a revenge element to the final]… Obviously, I was horribly disappointed and upset that I missed as many break points as I did [at the Australian Open, with] all the opportunities I had,” said Federer, who didn’t convert any of his 12 break opportunities against Tsitsipas in Melbourne. “That match hurt in some ways. But it’s part of the game. He did very well to get out of those tricky situations”

Contrasting Semi Finals win for Tsitsipas and Federer

Heading into the final both players had a contrasting semi-final. While Tsitsipas overcame an inform Gael Monfilis in a tight three setter, Federer stormed into the final with a 6-2, 6-2 thumping over Borna Cornic. Incidentally, Cornic had beaten Federer in the pairs last two outings prior to their semi final in Dubai.
