Home guard on election duty found dead in Pithoragarh

The dead bod of a home guard troop who had disappeared while on voting duty for Lok Sabha elections in Didihat constituency of Pithoragarh was found in the forest. Police suspect murder.
Hem Chandra (45), resident of Kaladungi, district Nainital was deployed on election duty in Kanalichhina, Pithoragarh. On Thursday, after 5 o’clock, when the officers called the staff posted on the booth, Hem chandra was not found.

In the inspection, he was not found anywhere, Presiding Officer Kailash Kumar and Sector Magistrate Ashish Punetha lodged a missing complaint in the Kanalichhina police station. On this, SO investigated the forests of Naini and Govarsa with the police but to no avail. Naini Booth is situated at a distance of just 2 km from Kanalichina, along the banks of the forest. Due to the possibility of the home guard slipping from the  rocks of Home the police searched a lot, but they could not find anything.

On Friday, SO Dhingad and SDRF team again organized a search campaign in the forests. In the evening, the body of Home Guard Hem Chandra was recovered from Naini jungle.

SO Dhingad said that there are signs of injury on the body, which is likely to lead to murder. The matter is under investigation. There were injuries on his body. There is a possibility of murder. From the post mortem report, the exact cause of death will be obvious. The police is engaged in investigation.
