Uttarakhand government gives nod to universities for conducting final year exams

A meeting related to Higher Education Department was held in the Secretariat on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

In the meeting, under the guidelines of University Grants Commission, discussions were held regarding conducting examinations in universities and colleges. It was decided in the meeting that at the university level, the examinations of the students of the last year and the last semester will be held from 24 August to 25 September and the exam results will be declared by 25 October while the new session will be started from 01 November. Apart from this, theĀ  result of intermediate students, according to the UGC guide line, will be declared by 05 August, and online classes will be started from 16 August. With the declaration of 12th examinations, the admission process for the first year will be started in all the state universities and colleges BA, B.Sc, M, M.Sc etc. and classes will start from 01 November.

The Vice Chancellors of various universities were told in the meeting that many colleges and universities in the state have been made Covid 19 Quarantine Centers, due to which there may be trouble, on which the Chief Minister directed that the universities and colleges which were converted into Covid-19 quarantine centers should send a letter to the District Magistrate on behalf of the head of the concerned institution, for vacating the quarantine center by 25 July and should be shifted elsewhere and adequate arrangements for sanitization should be made before the students arrive there so that the students taking the exam will not face any difficulty.

In the meeting, Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat told that about 03 lakh students in the entire state are studying in higher education, out of which about 80 thousand students are in the last year / semester. He said that about 25 thousand students in the state are studying from outside states, who will have to give their attendance in the respective universities and colleges before the exam by 01 August, but the condition has been laid for them to get tested for Covid-19 from their states. These candidates must bring their result certificates to avoid the imperative of quarantine.

In the meeting, Principal Secretary Anand Vardhan told that the exemption given by the UGC earlier to teachers, officers and employees in the office has ended. Now it will be mandatory for all principals, teachers officers and employees to be present in their office. If the orders are not followed, action will be taken against the concerned.

After the meeting, the Vice Chancellor of the Open University, OPS Negi, presented a check of Rs 05 lakh 80 thousand to the Chief Minister for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in view of Covid-19.
