7.2 magnitude earthquake strikes New Zealand

Located near the Kermadec Islands in the northeast of New Zealand, there was a magnitude 7.2 magnitude earthquake on Sunday. After this, officials issued a tsunami warning for a while. The New Zealand Civil Defense Organization issued threat warning for shores, harbors and small boats for the first minutes after the earthquake, but withdrew this warning after eight minutes.

Initially, the intensity of earthquake was measured 7.4, but the U.S. Geological Survey later showed its intensity 7.2. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center withdrew the warnings of the Tsunami released for the South Pacific region, but said that there may be slight fluctuation in the ocean of coastal areas surrounding the earthquake.

The earthquake came at 10.55 am (4:25 A.M as per the Indian standard time) and its center was within 10 kilometers from the ground.

Earlier, earthquake tremors were felt in Nepal. Earthquake shocks were felt in many areas including the country’s capital, Kathmandu. Earthquake shocks were felt at the capital Kathmandu at around 6:14 in the morning, whose intensity was 4.8 on Richter scale. In ​​Dhading district of Nepal, it was felt at 6:29 in the morning and then at 6:40 two different shocks, whose intensity was measured at 5.2 and 4.3 respectively on the Richter scale.

There was no information about any damage to the property from the earthquake. Four years ago, a devastating earthquake had occurred in Nepal, in which about 9,000 people lost their life, while 22,000 others were injured.
