10 dead in cloudbursts in Uttarkashi

The bodies of 10 people have been recovered after a rain, landslide and cloudburst event in Aarkot in Uttarkashi on Sunday. Right now 12 people are missing. 20 teams of SDRF, police, administration and disaster management have reached six disaster-hit villages in Arakot region. Disaster Management Secretary Amit Negi has also reached Arakot, three injured have been airlifted to Dehradun on Monday morning.

In the past too, the villages of Arakot area of ​​Mori tehsil of Uttarkashi district were the worst hit in the rains. After the cloudburst here, the sudden water which came on the rise caused havoc. A large amount of water and debris reached nearby villages. It killed 10 people, while 17 people are missing. The rescue teams were able to reach the affected villages of Uttarkashi on Monday morning due to the closure of the road.

In Uttarkashi, the rescue teams arrived in Arakot in the early hours of Sunday, from where some teams left on foot. Some teams attempted to drop the helicopter into the disaster affected area, but the helicopter could not land. Due to this, the rescue teams went ahead on foot from Arakot. The bodies of three people were found in the rescue operation which started from early Monday. The bodies of a total of 10 people have been recovered so far. They have all been identified. Right now 12 people are missing.

Apart from this, the rescue team rescued four injured people from Aarkot and Sannel to hospitals in Dehradun, while two injured were admitted to Primary Health Center Mori. However, according to the district disaster management, six people are missing. Disaster Secretary Amit Negi and SDRF IG Sanjay Gunjyal also reached the spot to expedite the disaster management work. During this, he also sent relief teams along with the rescue team. In-charge Minister Dhan Singh and Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal also reached Arakot to visit the disaster affected, where they took a meeting with the officials.
