PM Modi hails Daniil Medvedev’s sportsmanship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also talked about the positive thinking of the youth in his radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’. In this program aired on the last Sunday of every month, Modi interacts with the people of the country through radio. In the September 29 program, the Prime Minister has emphasized the importance of positive thinking among the youth. He cited the example of tennis star Daniil Medvedev, who was runner-up at the US Open 2019. He recalled the sportsman’s spirit of the 23-year-old Russian player. He said that Medvedev, who was the runner-up in the US Open, was praised by everyone for his post match speech.

Modi said that Medvedev’s simplicity and maturity were going to affect everyone. Modi said that he was very impressed with this young player’s speech. He said, ‘Medvedev had lost the finals just a short while ago. He would have been sad, if there was someone else, but Medvedev brought a smile to everyone’s face with his words. ‘ He said that Medvedev praised Nadal even after the defeat, which is a living proof of the spirit of the game.

The PM said that Nadal also praised Medvedev’s game. He said that both the passion of the loser and the humility of the winner in the final match were worth watching. The 23 year old Russian had a memorable Hard Court Swing in North America this season. After almost quitting in his early matches due to injury he turned a crowd villain for commenting against a jeering US Open crowd.But he silenced on and all with his game reaching his first ever Grand Slam Final. He was down 2 sets to love against Nadal in the final before mounting a comeback and taking the match into a deciding 5th set.
