Vijender Singh suffers first defeat in pro boxing career

The undefeated campaign on the professional circuit of veteran boxer Vijender Singh of India came to a halt on Friday. The 35 year old was defeated by Russia’s Artysh Lopsan. Beijing Olympics 2008 bronze medalist Vijender landed in the professional circuit in 2015 and had won 12 consecutive matches since. The Russian boxer, playing his seventh bout, broke the hearts of the local spectators by winning the match on board the ‘Majestic Pride Casino’. After one minute and nine seconds in the fifth round, the referee declared the Russian boxer victorious.

The match was held at the top of the Majestic Pride Casino Ship in Goa. Vijender’s punches did not work in front of 26-year-old, 6 feet four inches tall Russian boxer Artysh Lopsan. Artysh Lopsan, while playing a brilliant game, squeezed every drop of energy from his opponent. Vijender started to look tired after the first round and he also had to face the the unrelenting punches of the opposing boxer. Unfortunately, today Vijender did not have any answer for them.

On 10 October 2015, Vijender Singh landed in the professional boxing ring for the first time. Since then, his winning streak continued till 2019. He did not stepped in the ring for one and a half years due to the Corona crisis. In such a situation, his return has been disappointing.
