After record high temperatures; record rain spell in May
The changing mood of the weather has broken the record 30 years ago in May. In May, the weather like September has been felt. The reason for this is the record rainfall of 49.2 mm so far in the entire month. The maximum and minimum temperatures of Haridwar are below normal due to post-rain humidity and continuous rain in the mountains. The rains on May 22 and 23 brought the maximum and minimum temperatures below normal. On May 23, the record of several decades of minimum temperature being recorded at 18 degrees Celsius was broken. The maximum temperature in the month of May generally ranges from 38 to 40 degree Celsius and the minimum is 27 degree Celsius. But this time the temperature for the last week of May is 34 to 35 degree Celsius and the minimum is 22 to 23 degree Celsius. This is often seen in September. People have got relief from the scorching heat due to below normal temperature. However, due to the increase in humidity, it is getting humid sometimes from 12 to 2 in the afternoon. But the temperature is not increasing.
According to Narendra Rawat, Research Supervisor of the Meteorological Department’s center located in Bahadarabad, there has been record rainfall in May this year. So far 49.2 mm has been recorded. Due to incessant rains, the temperature has come down to below normal in the last week of May. This temperature usually remains in the month of September. Narendra Rawat says, in 1992 there was a similar weather on 3rd and 4th May. Even at that time, the maximum temperature in the first week of May was 34 to 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 22 to 23 degrees Celsius. For the first time since 1992, such a temperature has happened at the end of May 2022.
In May this year, the weather has set many records. On May 16, the maximum temperature reached 41 degrees, while on May 23, the minimum temperature was recorded at 18 degrees.
