Notification issued for Haridwar Panchayat elections, voting on 26, results on 28th Sep

Notification has been issued for Haridwar Panchayat elections. Polling will be held on 26th September and results will be declared on 28th. Haridwar Panchayat elections will be held on September 26, due to which the election code of conduct will be applicable in the district from Thursday.

The High Court had directed the state government to issue a notification in the first week of August for conducting three-tier panchayat elections in Haridwar. The matter was heard before a division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice RC Khulbe.

Haridwar resident Ranjan Tyagi had filed a public interest litigation in the High Court saying that the government is not conducting three-tier panchayat elections in Haridwar district, which is in violation of the Supreme Court order. On this, it was said by the State Election Commission that the commission would issue a notification for the three-tier panchayat elections in the first week of August.

Advocate General SN Babulkar, on behalf of the state government, told the court that the government is not delaying or violating the order of the Supreme Court. He said that the work of delimitation of bodies and panchayats has been completed.
