ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Australia defeats India to win the title for the 6th time
India suffered a heart breaking defeat by 6 wickets in the final of the World Cup 2023. On Sunday, Australia won the ODI World Cup title for the sixth time. This defeat reminded Indian fans of the 2003 World Cup final. 20 years ago the Aussies had beaten the men in blue by 125 runs in Johannesburg.
After losing the toss and batting first, Team India was all out for 240 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Australian batsmen achieved the target of 241 runs by losing 4 wickets in 43 overs. Travis Head scored a century of 137 runs, while Marnus Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 58 runs. Earlier, Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets, while captain Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood got 2 wickets each. Travis Head was the player of the match, while Virat Kohli was the player of the tournament.
Australia chased the target in 43 overs
Australia scored the remaining 16 runs in 3 overs of the death overs. Indian bowlers also got one wicket in these 18 balls. Siraj got Travis Head (137 runs) caught by Shubman Gill. Earlier, team India lost momentum after losing skipper Rohit Sharma in the 10th over. though Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored half-centuries, it was not enough to take India to a winning total.
