State government expecting Rs 10 lakh GST collection from Uttarayani fair
This time from the Uttarayani fair, the state tax department is expected to get Rs 10 lakh as GST. This time it will be mandatory for all the shopkeepers to shop in the fair to register in GST. Action can be taken against shopkeepers for its violation.
For the past years, no tax was levied at the Uttarayani fair to the traders coming from outside areas for trade. From this time the state tax department will now collect GST from fairs as well. The municipality also received more than 34 lakhs of income from temporary shops and jhoolas, circuses etc. set up at places like Saryu-Gomti Bagad, Numaishakhet, Pindari Road, Bhotia Padao etc. last year. Which is expected to increase this time. The municipality did not provide any kind of GST in this earning.
At the same time, Uttarayani fair, which runs for a week, has an estimated trade of over Rs 10 crore. Even then, no shopkeeper who used to have a stall here did not pay tax. Now these shopkeepers will come as casual tax payers, for whom it will be mandatory to get GST registration. This leads to loss of revenue of lakhs to the government. This time the tax department has already made preparations. The state tax department has asked all the shopkeepers to register. Action can be taken against those who run the shop without registration.
