PC sales stop 7 year decline
The seven-year slowness in personal computer (PC) sales ended in 2019. Last year, total sales of 26.12 million PCs globally were 0.6% higher than in 2018. However, PC sales picked up in the fourth quarter and showed a 2.3 per cent jump.
According to research firm Gartner, in the October-December quarter of 2019, a total of 7.06 million PCs have been sold globally. This is 2.30% higher than 6.9 crores in the fourth quarter of 2018. Gartner principal analyst Mikako Kitagawa said that for the first time since 2011, the PC market has recorded growth.
The main reason for this is the increased demand for Windows-10 upgrades from the US, Europe, West Asia, Africa and Japan. It is expected that this growth will continue in 2020 as well. According to Mikako, PC demand was steadily decreasing due to the ongoing trade war and sluggish economy. After a long gap of seven years, the computer market has once again indicated signs of gaining momentum.
The Chinese company Lenovo topped the market in selling PCs in worldwide markets. In 2019, Lenovo sold the most PCs and its share surpassed that of HP. Lenovo has recorded year-on-year growth in all regions except the Asia-Pacific region. Even in the midst of a two-year-long trade war, the Chinese company sold 30 percent more PCs in the US in 2019 than in 2018.
