SIAM FY 2025 data reveals rise in sale of Electric Vehicles

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has informed that vehicle manufacturers have registered a growth of 7.3 percent in domestic auto sales in FY 2025. Companies have registered sales of 2,56,07,391 units of vehicles during this period. Passenger vehicle sales in the Indian market have increased by 2 percent year-on-year, with utility vehicles being the main growth drivers. Apart from this, two-wheeler sales have increased by 9.1 percent, with scooter sales being the highest.

Sales of Passenger Vehicles

Talking about passenger vehicle sales, passenger car sales declined by 12.6 percent from 15,48,947 units in FY 2024 to 13,53,287 units in FY 2025. Apart from this, talking about the sale of utility vehicles (UV), the total sales of the companies increased from 25,20,691 units to 27,97,229 units, showing an increase of 11 percent.

SIAM said that UV sales in FY 2025 were 65 percent of all domestic passenger vehicle sales, up from 60 percent in FY 2024. Van sales reached 1,51,332 units in the last financial year, up 1.5 percent from 1,49,112 units in the previous financial year. Total passenger vehicle sales stood at 43,01,848 units.

Apart from this, two-wheelers, scooter sales in the domestic market have registered a significant increase of 17.4 percent, and the companies sold 68,53,214 units. Bike sales increased from 1,16,53,237 units to 1,22,52,305 units, an increase of 5.1 percent.

Meanwhile, moped sales, companies have registered a growth of 4.2 percent, which increased from 4,81,803 units to 5,01,813 units. Total sales in this segment stood at 1,96,07,332 units. Talking about other segments, commercial vehicle sales have registered a marginal decline of 1.2 percent, while three-wheeler sales grew by 6.7 percent.

Sales remained stable in the fourth quarter of FY 2025

Focusing on the fourth quarter of FY 2025, the Indian auto industry has achieved a relatively flat 1.8 percent sales growth. Passenger vehicle sales grew 2.4 per cent to 11,62,560 units due to strong demand for utility vehicles. Passenger vehicle sales declined 4.5 per cent to 3,76,772 units from 3,94,553 units, while SUV sales grew to 7,48,509 units from 7,01,212 units.

Two-wheeler sales

Talking about two-wheeler sales, scooter sales registered a significant 12.1 per cent growth, while motorcycle and moped sales declined 3.5 per cent and 10.8 per cent respectively. Total two-wheeler sales stood at 45,67,762 units – up 1.4 per cent year-on-year. Apart from this, commercial vehicle sales grew by 3.9 percent in the fourth quarter of FY25, while three-wheeler sales grew by 7.7 percent.

Electric vehicle sales accelerate in FY25, up 16.9 percent

SIAM has recorded a significant increase in EV sales in the country in the financial year. Cumulative EV sales reached 19.7 lakh units in FY25 – an increase of 16.9 percent compared to FY24.

Electric passenger vehicle registrations crossed the 1 lakh unit mark during this financial year, registering an increase of 18.2 percent. Electric two-wheeler registrations grew 21.2 percent to 11.5 lakh units, while electric three-wheeler sales grew 10.5 percent to 7 lakh units.
