In view of the warning issued by the Meteorological Department, all government and non-government schools in Dehradun and Haridwar districts have been declared closed on Tuesday.
In the afternoon, Haridwar DM Deepak Rawat had instructed the government and public schools to close on May 8 on the basis of the report of the Meteorological Department, by the evening, Dehradun DM SA Murugesan also followed suit. This decision was taken considering the estimation of hailstorm. There will be holidays in all educational institutions and Anganwadi centers run from class I to 12th. The Chief Education Officer and the District Program Officer have been instructed to ensure compliance with the order in this regard.
In a statement issued to the media, the District Magistrate said that some other sites providing weather information have warned of a severe thunderstorm in the district. A wind speed of approximately twenty kilometers has been issued. As a result, all the schools and classrooms till Class 12th and Anganwadi have been instructed to be closed on May 8. Under the Disaster Management Act, the District Magistrate has given clear instructions that FIRs will also be lodged with departmental action against schools not adhering to the instructions. It is noteworthy that despite the directives of the District Magistrate, public schools do not declare holiday. On the other hand, in the district four days ago, the strong storm and hurricane caused great damage to the crops. The mango crop has been ruined by sixty percent. Power supply was interrupted for hours by the falling of trees in many places.
