Dehradun struggles with severe waterlogging and flooding after heavy rain spell

On Monday, August 11, the Meteorological Department had issued a three-hour heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun. During this time, the city received a heavy downpour. Water overflowing the roads was a common sight throughout the city. Rivers and streams were in spate, some videos of which have also surfaced. Water has also come up to the Bindal river bridge. Apart from this, in a video, some cattle are also seen floating in the overflowing drain.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a high possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall and intense to very intense spells/storms/lightning in different places like Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Kashipur, Ranikhet, Kotdwar and their surrounding areas in Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Udham Singh Nagar.

The most havoc of rain was seen in Nalapani, Tapkeshwar, IT Park, Maldevta areas of Dehradun.
